Lucretia the leafy sea dragon comes from the great barrier reef in Australia to tell you of her plight .
the leafy sea dragon or Australian seahorse is one of the most beautiful creature on the plant. upon seeing one it is not difficult to understand how the legend of water dwelling dragons came in to existence. They are also one of the most fragile creatures on the earth. they depend on flotation bladders that are very fragile and cannot cope with any sudden changes in water pressure . Also a temperature change as little as 5 degrees can kill them. Not even professional aquariums have had much success keeping them alive. for more than a few weeks. The only way to see them with out endangering their delicate lives is scuba diving in the great barrier reef. However the Reef is threatened by pollution, declining water quality, global climate change as well as illegal fishing and shipping accidents . It can take coral over 100 years to repair 1 inch of damage. humans have the capacity for both a positive and negative impact on our surroundings. Despite where you live , as citizens on earth we have a duty to protect the habitat of earths most defenseless inhabitants from further destruction. Once the leafy sea dragon is gone it is gone forever. and i for one to not wan to live in a world where humans put the wants of the strongest species before the needs of the weakest species.

Oh it's really pretty. I saw two sea dragons at an aquarium in seattle years ago. They don't have them anymore

I spent almost an hour staring at them. This is a really beautiful piece.

thank you , i really appreshate the positive feed back. yes they are amazing creatures. I saw two at the baltimore aquerium years ago myself but I revsited yeterday and they were no longer there .It is realy hard for aqueriums to keep them, because of how delicat thire floation bladers are many do not servive the long trips from australia. allso because they mate for life ,if one dies the other will follow shortly after.
